As companies begin to employ more advanced data management solutions the challenges have also become more advanced.

Data migration is a challenge that every company will eventually face. Information systems get retired and replaced with newer, more functional systems. This doesn’t mean existing data is scrapped or forgotten. This information must be migrated to the new system. For many managers and system administrators this can be viewed as nothing short of disastrous. Database schema’s are different, characters in field text can become “illegal,” and unavoidably some existing data and relationships will simply be erroneous.

The good news is that through the use of best practices, current technology, and extensive experience, the task of data migration can be successful. The process of migrating data can be broken down into a series of tasks, metrics, and procedures that reduce costs and time to completion, eliminating error and business managers’ headaches.

Three Keys to Successful Data Migration.

1. Comprehensive Mapping. Every data field that is going to be migrated from the source system to the target system must be defined and examined to ensure compliance with field lengths, data types, system rules, and other possible issues. A detailed data map is essential.

2. Validation. Data in a legacy system can contain problems or be unknowingly incorrect from many causes. Validation rules that can be utilized to locate and fix these problems should be performed on the first-pass data extract. Data validation and cleanup is an essential portion of a good migration plan.

3. Quality Transformation. Data extracted from the source system and transformed—or translated—into a format that the target system can import and understand. This transformation will not only perform the defined data mappings, but will also execute any underlying business logic functions that may be essential to populating more complex data structures.

Migrating PLM data from a completely cloud based solution may not be as easy as you would think – until now.

We’ve heard from many Arena PLM customers who are experiencing rapid growth, that they require a PLM that can better scale along with their growth. Yet as they request their PLM data be exported for migration, some find timeliness may become an issue. Additionally, that data is not necessarily able to import into a format readily conducive to the new PLM.

As part of our Data Migration Center, Domain Systems has created specifically for Arena clients a pre-built service to make migration away from Arena to Agile PLM, rapid, simple, and stress free. We can discuss with you some of the pitfalls relating to such migrations and the advantages of using our service to accomplish them.

If you would like your companies’ innovation, R&D and supply chain systems to keep pace with sales and marketing – Call Domain Systems to learn more.

Please contact us at (801) 447 – 5723.

Self-Service Business Analytics for SAP Solutions

Salt Lake City, UT – May 2, 2011: Domain Systems, Inc., leading system integrator and reseller of Oracle Agile PLM solutions announces they have been selected by FusionOps, a leading provider of on-demand Business Analytics for SAP, to become a Premiere Systems Integrator and will market and provide professional services for training and implementation of FusionOps products including Streamline, business process optimization software, and Insight the world’s first ondemand social analytics application. Together these solutions help customers and suppliers in manufacturing supply chain gain visibility, perform analytics, and optimize enterprise business activities including procurement, supplier performance, quality, planning, sales, and billing. FusionOps applications currently support medium to large enterprises using SAP, and will support other leading ERP solutions such as those provided by Oracle Corp., in the near future.

As a systems integrator for FusionOps, Domain will provide all required services to implement and support Streamline and Insight for both new and existing Customers.

The FusionOps Insight and Streamline suite is designed to provide business users the visibility they need to make better decisions, as well as the process optimization to act swiftly to implement those decisions and drive better business results. FusionOps is different because Insight is a completely self-serve BI application allowing users to define and refine their own operational dashboards using data from the ERP and other transaction systems. It also delivers a social UI experience that lets business users easily like and share their business dashboards with everyone in their extended business network promoting easy and effective collaboration. Streamline helps connect suppliers and customers together with real time visibility, on-line approvals, and up to date change management for planning, procurement and execution of inter-enterprise transactions. Both applications are offered on a secure SaaS platform and feature a patent-pending ERP system connection that makes integration a simple plug and play operation.

“We are very excited to have Domain Systems, Inc., as an implementation partner,” said Rich Nieset, CEO and Chairman of FusionOps. “Domain has years of manufacturing experience around product lifecycle management (PLM) and ERP.
